Punta Bandera Beach in Luquillo

Looking for a quieter stretch of Luquillo’s coast? Punta La Bandera, also called Punta Bandera, is a beach walk from Playa Azul with Atlantic views and room to slow down. Here are Vincent’s local notes, our photographs, and practical tips for planning your visit.

Vincent’s beach notes

You can easily spend a day or two at the various beaches in Luquillo. Punta La Bandera is a quieter beach a short walk from the public beach, Playa Azul. You will park near Playa Azul and follow the beach north and around the corner to the west. It’s only a 5–10 minute walk from Playa Azul. This area is generally not as busy, and feels more private with beautiful Atlantic views and nice walks up and down the beach. Use the map below to plan your route from Playa Azul, follow public access routes, and respect nearby homes and posted parking restrictions.

How to reach Punta La Bandera

Use Playa Azul in Luquillo as your starting point. As described in Vincent’s notes above, follow the shoreline north, then around the corner toward the west. Allow roughly 5–10 minutes for the walk, plus extra time if you stop for photographs. Follow public access routes and posted signs; do not cross private gardens or residential entrances.

The map below shows the beach area. It is a planning aid, not a guarantee of an open parking space or a passable shoreline. If the approach is restricted or conditions make the walk uncomfortable, choose another public beach access.

Parking and facilities: plan a simple beach visit

Look for permitted parking near Playa Azul and check the signs before leaving your car. Avoid blocking driveways or access for residents. This guide does not promise a dedicated car park, parking price, or reserved space at Punta La Bandera.

Bring drinking water, snacks, sun protection, a towel, and a bag for taking everything away. Plan around the facilities available at your starting point rather than relying on toilets, showers, food service, or lifeguards at this quieter stretch. Keep your beach bag light enough for the walk back.
