Cayo Icacos: plan your Fajardo island day

White sand, bright blue water, and a boat ride away from the mainland: Cayo Icacos is one of the east-coast outings we love sharing with FerTex Properties guests. The main choice is how you get there. A water taxi suits a beach day with your own supplies; an organized boat excursion can combine the crossing with onboard services. Compare the options below before reserving.

Getting to Cayo Icacos: water taxi or catamaran?

You reach Icacos by boat. Water taxis commonly leave from Las Croabas in Fajardo; organized excursions may use a different marina. Book with the operator directly and use the meeting instructions for your particular trip.

Water taxi: a beach day at your own pace

Choose this if your priority is time on the beach and you are comfortable organizing your own day. A transfer is not automatically a guided snorkeling tour. Ask what the fare includes, how the return works, and whether equipment is supplied or costs extra.

Catamaran or organized excursion: more arranged for you

Choose this if you prefer a hosted boat outing. Compare the actual itinerary and inclusions: meals, drinks, snorkel equipment, time ashore, and onboard facilities differ. Check age, swimming ability, and boarding requirements for everyone in your group.

Confirm these details before booking

Meeting point: get the exact marina or dock, parking instructions, and check-in time.
Return plan: confirm the pickup location and agreed return time before leaving the mainland.
Total price: check equipment hire, parking, taxes, and any other extras.
Conditions and changes: ask how weather, route changes, and cancellations are handled.
Your group: discuss mobility, boarding, and swimming needs before paying.

Do not assume an Icacos boat uses the same dock or schedule as a ferry to another island. Allow time to reach the departure point from your accommodation.

Facilities and what to bring

There are no permanent visitor facilities on Icacos. Plan for a self-sufficient beach day, including drinking water, food, towels, a hat, sun protection, and a rubbish bag. Bring snorkeling equipment and shade if you need them and your operator does not supply them.

Check whether your boat has a toilet and whether it remains accessible during your visit. Keep valuables protected from splashes and take all belongings and rubbish back with you.

Swimming and snorkeling

The clear-water scenery is a big part of Icacos’s appeal. Swimming and snorkeling depend on conditions on the day and your group’s abilities; a beautiful photograph does not guarantee calm water. Follow your captain’s instructions, give marine life space, and avoid touching coral.

Leave time simply to enjoy the shoreline. You do not need to fill every minute with activities to make an island day memorable.
