Playa Tamarindo – Guanica

Playa Tamarindo - Guanica

Playa Tamarindo, reached through Guánica’s dry forest, is a quieter stop for coastal scenery, a picnic, and time outdoors in southwest Puerto Rico. Read Vincent’s firsthand notes and use the map and planning tips below for your visit.

Vincent’s visit to Playa Tamarindo

Playa Tamarindo is located in a remote area outside of Guánica, in the southwest corner of the island. For me personally, it’s worth the drive!  I would plan to spend the day here, so bring food, water, drinks and maybe a good book.  Once you park, it is a short hike to get to the beach.  Once you are on the beach, there are opportunities to explore the area on foot.  You will find some stunning rock formations, trails, and of course the warm Caribbean water.

Where is Playa Tamarindo?

This guide is about the southwest-coast beach reached through Guánica, not Tamarindo Beach on Culebra. Although often described as Playa Tamarindo, Guánica, the beach is physically in Guayanilla. Access is through Guánica’s Bosque Seco, following PR-333 toward the parking area and the path to the beach. Discover Puerto Rico’s Tamarindo profile explains this distinction and notes that parking access can change seasonally.

Planning your Playa Tamarindo visit

Allow time for the drive, the walk from parking, and a relaxed visit rather than treating this as a quick roadside stop. Follow posted access and parking instructions when you arrive, and use permitted public routes. If an entrance is closed, adjust your plans instead of assuming that a navigation app has found a usable alternative. For a longer southwest outing, see Vincent’s Guánica to Cabo Rojo road trip.

What to pack

Bring drinking water, food, a hat, sun protection, beach towels, and comfortable shoes for the approach and any walking you plan to do. Keep your load manageable for the walk back. Vincent recommends a good book and enough supplies to settle in for the day. Take your rubbish with you, leave natural features undisturbed, and give yourself time to return before dark.

Make it part of your Puerto Rico holiday

Use our Ultimate Puerto Rico Beach Guide to compare different beach experiences, including Tamarindo Beach on Culebra if that is the destination you intended. Our Puerto Rico vacation rentals are in the east of the island, so plan this southwest visit as a longer excursion rather than a nearby beach stop.
